Founder at Smart Law LLC
(she / her / hers)
“Practicing family law is my business and it’s personal.”
Josette Allen
As waves constantly crash into rocks on a shoreline, the unity and collectiveness of each piece protects the integrity of the other.
When seeking solitude and a space for reflection, Josette enjoys visiting her alma mater at Northwestern University, and walks the nearby shoreline to read the inspirational (and colorful) rocks. Rocks, a symbol of longevity and a strong foundation, remind us that through the passage of time, strength & perseverance prevails. The foundation of this firm was forged during one of those walks.
Smart Law LLC was created for two purposes:
1. to foster child advocacy in legal matters; and
2. to be a catalyst to help each client embrace change and develop the mindset that his/her family law matter is an opportunity for growth and a positive new beginning.
Josette recognizes that any family law matter is not only a resolution to a legal problem but it is also a complex set of circumstances that significantly alters the lives of the many people involved, particularly children. As such, there are long-lasting emotional and financial consequences.
Josette’s objective is to provide every client with clarity in times of uncertainty so the client can move forward with confidence and better serve his/her family.
Josette has the skill set, knowledge, and experience to best advocate for her clients.
Josette has extensive litigation experience which includes pretrial discovery, motion practice, contested hearings and trials. She can handle complex family law litigation involving children and/or finances, whether it is pre or post-judgment.
Josette has diverse negotiating experience and has trained in the areas of dispute resolution, including mediation and collaborative law.
Josette has served as a Guardian ad litem on family law matters in DuPage County. In 2019, Josette presented to the Illinois State Bar Association on a topic closely aligned with her values: Ethical Considerations: Dilemmas for a GAL, Child Representative, and Attorney for the Child.
Josette is a member of the Child Law Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. She currently serves as the chair of the subcommittee for continuing legal education on the Child Law Section, dedicating many hours to research, collaboration, and education.
